I have been on the Executive Committee of Oaklanders Against The Parcel Tax, and was the co-author of the Argument Against and Rebuttal to the Argument In Favor of Measure BB. In 2008, I sued the City over numerous violations of Measure Y. In 2009, an Alameda County Superior Court Judge ruled that the City had misspent millions of Measure Y dollars and had failed to conduct audits required by law. In March of 2010, I sued the City again, based primarily on the City's deliberate strategy of reducing the size of the police force by not funding, scheduling or holding any new police academies since 2008. This results in the police force dropping by over 50 officers a year, even without layoffs! Meanwhile, the City continued to collect the Measure Y tax, which I contend was illegal. The lawsuit also alleged failure to properly staff Measure Y positions, failure to comply with competitive bidding requirements, and multiple violations of the Public Records Act.
